Overview of Counseling Process
Opening Statement/Script
Confirm signatures on the Consent for Services and Release/Exchange of Information (ROI only if needed)- these will be sent out through docusign by Clinic Coordinator (let Clinic Coordinator know if you need this so they can assist you)
Explore Presenting Problem- what bring you here, to counseling?
Goals for counseling? What would you like to get out of our time together? What would you like to get out of our counseling sessions together? What would your goals be for our counseling sessions together?
If you have time- Begin Genogram-
- Introduce and Explain the Genogram.
- Then complete genogram. Use the WHITEBOARD feature on ZOOM. SHARE SCREEN. 1 counselor draws the genogram, the other can assist with questions. Look for trends, patterns, ask questions about clarifications. Use any opportunities for learning more about family system.
- *** Sometimes there will be no time for the genogram depending on the PP and GOALS. This is ok, you can do it next session.
Summarization- Give a good summarization of the session from beginning to end. Make sure you include the versions of the presenting problem and versions of goals shared, brief overview of the genogram and what was learned about the family.
Closing- Remind family of meeting again next week (appointment time) and that there will be 1 more session next week before a 6 week break, and that this will be talked about more next week.
